MATCHPLAY × J. THOMPSON

Sydney-based designer J. Thompson’s shoe is heavily influenced by heritage design; with its worn-in finish and authentic detailing defining his interpratition of the classic Matchplay sneaker. Inspired by Adidas archive shoes from the ’30s, Thompson has used very subtle waxed leather to give a vintage look. A matching pigskin suede toebox shows impeccable attention to detail while the lack of lining gives it a handcrafted feel.

BC × KATE MOROSS

London based graphic artist Kate Moross has chosen a predominately grey suede upper that features reflective triangles that reference the Olympic colour scheme. A grey midsole and laces underpin the shoe, although in true Moross style, this updated version of the BC also comes with an extra pack of bright laces with alternating aglet colours to contrast the tonal base palette. A bright green fabric loop on the heel tab and red loop on the tongue featuring Kate’s logo, completing this innovative and unique reworking.

DECADE HI × ALOE BLACC

Although Aloe Blacc is representing LA, his reworking of the Decade Hi is inspired by African athletes. The shoe is made from from oxblood leather chosen to represent African soil, whilst the translucent gum outsole represents the bare foot of Blacc’s inspiration, Ethiopian gold medalist and marathon runner Abebe Bikila. The detailing is subtle and premium, with Blacc’s sunglasses and bow-tie motif embossed into the leather.

ZX 500 × QUOTE

The first drop is completed by Berlin native and sneaker collector Quote’s reworking of the ZX 500 running silhouette. This version remains loyal to the ‘80s original using a mix of nylon and mesh throughout whilst Quote’s muted colour-way is directly influenced by the blue and white track of the Berlin Olympic Stadium; where his favourite football team are based. The detailing is novel, yet subtle, with the Olympic colours appearing only as a flash of colour on the outsole and the inside of the tongue fabric loop featuring a tattooed fist motif.

Converse First String Jack Purcell Johnny Ox & Johnny Hi

May 11th, 2012 | avenuestore

When something with the history and pedigree like the Jack Purcell by CONVERSE comes along for a touch-up, it doesn’t need much tweaking to make it a hit. First introduced back in the ’30′s, these redone classics, the Johnny Hi and the Johnny Ox received a fine pinstripe makeover with opaque rip stop overlays, tortoise shell eyelets, greystone accents, and a blue ‘smile’ on the toe cap, which make this shoe was relevant today as it was over 80 years ago. Both the low and high-top silhouettes received CONVERSE’s removable cushioned innersole and a pair of white laces, which match the Jack Purcell signature on the tongue. Now available in store.

Nike ‘Blue Ribbon Sports’ Pack

May 11th, 2012 | avenuestore

The name Blue Ribbon Sports won’t mean much to many. But for those who have a feverish passion for the latest kicks on their feet, the history of this brand has been nothing short of revolutionary. Now of course, we know it as Nike, but back in 1964, BRS was a burgeoning sportswear company who operated as a distributor for Onitsuka Tiger. As they grew, so did their ideas and it wasn’t long before founders Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight started developing their own products. For Spring/Summer 2012, Nike have released the ‘Blue Ribbon Sports’ Pack celebrating one of Nike’s most revered runners, the Air Vortex, as well it’s illustrious past.

Nike Air Vortex VNTG €90,00

Nike Vortex Fuse €99,00

The Vortex was part of Nike’s fabled ‘V-Series’ (Vengeance, Venture & Vortex), successfully showcasing the prowess of the new Air technology. First released in 1985, the Air Vortex placed it’s focus on the supreme cushioning of it’s Air sole unit. Teaming suede and mesh layers together with accents of 3M reflective panels, the Vortex has a true 80′s feel whilst working tremendously well as running shoe. The BRS editions of the Air Vortex are reworked in both VNTG and Hyperfuse technolgy, which like the No Sew, uses high pressure bonding to meld several layers into one slim-line upper
